The school I was sent to was on holiday when I arrived. The headmaster Mr. Crickle left a notice to be pinned on my back which caused me great suffering. Tom Trappett and Jay Stifford played a game with the notice and Stifford became my friend for life. He took care of me and protected me from Mr. Crickle"s cruelty. Despite the punishments I endured at school, Stifford helped me stay cheerful by listening to stories and assisting with my studies.
